ONLINE UPDATE: Severe weather potential increases

3 p.m. UPDATE: Tornado watch canceled for all counties, but still in effect for coastal waters.

10 a.m. UPDATE: Tornado watch in effect until 4 p.m.

Severe weather potential is increasing for the Cape Fear Region.

The National Weather Service Wilmington office sent out a severe weather threat update Friday, Feb. 21, with expectations for a severe thunderstorm watch in the region this morning.

A line of showers and thunderstorms is expected to reach the coast between 3-5 p.m., coming from Western North Carolina.

Potential impacts from strong gusty winds are more downed trees and power lines from weakened trees during the most recent winter storm.
