Canvass results for the 2013 municipal elections confirm that Hank Miller III and Lisa Weeks will fill the two Wrightsville Beach Board of Aldermen seats.
Uncontested mayoral candidate Bill Blair will also join the board with 577 votes. There were 38 write-ins for mayor.
Miller received 396 votes, 29.36 percent, and Weeks received 373 votes, 27.65 percent.
The two other aldermen candidates, newcomer Andy Hall, with 286 votes, and current Alderman, Mayor Pro Tem Bill Sisson, with 294 votes, each received close to 21 percent of the votes. There were no write-ins for the aldermen seats, making it the only 2013 New Hanover County municipal race without any write-ins.
On Election Day, the candidates had varying views about voter turnout. When polls closed at 7:30 p.m., 702 people had cast their votes in the Wrightsville Beach portion of the municipal election. There were 92 absentee voters and 610 in-person voters.
Hall and Miller said they thought there was a good turnout with more voters than they expected.
“I think we had a good turnout,” Miller said. “We didn’t have a fight.”
Before the results were announced, Sisson said he would feel better if the number of voters had been closer to 800.
“I really appreciate the people who came out to vote,” Sisson said. “If you don’t vote, you get what you get.”
Carolina Beach Mayor Bob Lewis requested a recount of official results for the race, for which he received 741 votes to challenger Dan Wilcox’s 748.
