One-stop absentee voting began on Thursday, Oct. 17, and will close on Saturday, Nov. 2 at 1 p.m. Residents of Wrightsville Beach, Wilmington, Kure Beach and Carolina Beach are eligible to vote in the 2013 municipal election. The last day to request an absentee ballot by mail is Oct. 29 by 5 p.m. Polls will be open from 6:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. on Municipal Election Day on Tuesday, Nov. 5.
During the first four days, 506 voters turned out to vote early. In 2009, 2,344 people voted absentee in person and in 2011, a total of 2,570 people voted absentee in person throughout the 12-day period.
“History is going to show most likely the turnout for this election will be lower than 2011,” said Marvin McFadyen, director of the New Hanover County Board of Elections. — Kelly Corbett
