UPDATE: Search for suspect was called off around 7 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 19. Law enforcement is still searching for the suspect, but will not be conducting the same type of search that was performed on Thursday in Mayfaire Town Center.

Multiple law enforcement agencies are in search of a suspect in Mayfaire.

The Wilmington Police Department and New Hanover County Sheriff’s Office is assisting Homeland Security Investigations with the search.

Vincent Picard, spokesperson with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, said around 4:20 p.m., “ICE Homeland Security Investigations was seeking to execute two arrest warrants for documented gang members and we took one into custody and one fled the scene. So now, the one that fled the scene is boxed in in a wooded area.

Supervisory Special Agent Bob Becker, U.S. Department of Homeland Security, said shortly after 4 p.m., that the two men are MS-13 gang members. MS-13 is a transnational gang.

Landfall Security issued an alert around 2:30 p.m. about the search.

“Law enforcement attempted to execute an arrest warrant on two temporary landscape contracted laborers within the Landfall community,” Landfall Security stated. "One suspect was arrested and the other, a Hispanic male approximately mid to late 20s wearing a Carolina blue T-shirt and blue jeans. At this time we are told that the second suspect ran into the Mayfaire area, and the authorities are pursuing the individual. Please contact law enforcement, 910-343-3600, if you see anything suspicious and we will provide you with further updates as they become available.”

Also around 2:30 p.m., four K-9 units with lights flashing were parked along Town Center Drive by O2 Fitness.

Picard said information released would be limited until the suspect is in custody.

Updates are being posted as they come available.
