Out of 4,000 entries, Lumina News was among the top award winners during the North Carolina Press Association's 139th Annual Meeting and Awards Ceremony held at the George Watts Hill Alumni Center at the University of North Carolina in Chapel HIll on Thursday, March 21.
Publisher/editor Pat Bradford, Managing Editor Marimar McNaughton and Director of Photography Allison Potter accepted a second place General Excellence Award on behalf of the news team presented by NCPA president Hal Tanner III, Goldsboro News Argus, and NCPA Executive Director Beth Grace.
The General Excellence Awards represent the highest achievement among community and daily newspapers each year. The judge's comments for Lumina News' entry state: Excellent from front to back. Solid reporting/writing/editing skills; great use of color and photos; outstanding mix of news, features and PSAs; and, by far, the best use of fonts, column widths and heads of any paper submitted in this competition.
