Paco Strickland entertained guests at the Workin4U, Inc. Community Christmas Party on Dec. 7, 2007.

On Monday, Jan. 21, the local surfing and arts communities lost William “Paco” Strickland to his battle with multiple myeloma, but on Saturday, Feb. 23, both groups and others will have a chance to celebrate the life of the renowned flamenco guitarist.

A sunrise paddle out at one of Paco’s favorite surf spots on Wrightsville Beach — Public Beach Access No. 2 at the north end of the beach — will begin at 6:45 a.m. Overflow parking for the event will be available in the Shell Island Resort parking deck. Coffee, donuts and biscuits will also be provided.

Later that day, a Remembrance of Life ceremony will be held at Thalian Hall in downtown Wilmington from 2-5 p.m. After the ceremony those in attendance will be treated to tapas and beverages.

Both events are open to anyone who wishes to celebrate the life of the Cape Fear’s celebrated world-music guitarist, radio personality and recording artist.
