This weekend marks the final days to donate to the local film "Clashing with Titans” via its Indiegogo online fundraising campaign. Supporters of the film are rallying to raise $50,000 by Sunday, Feb. 3, to finish production this spring. The film is the story of community activists against Titan Cement.

“I cannot think of a more important or worthy project than this film right now,” said Lloyd Smith, co-founder of Cape Fear Economic Development Council in a recent statement. “The story of how we got here, how we responded and how we can do it differently next time needs to be told.”

Since publicly kicking-off the online fundraising campaign, director Josh Prindiville said that support has grown.

“Going into the Indiegogo campaign, none of us knew what to expect, as “crowd-funding” websites are a relatively new phenomenon,” he said. “As unpredictable as this vehicle is, we have several contingencies ensuring this film gets made, despite not achieving our goal in this campaign.”

Anyone may donate as much as $1 to $5,000 via the Indiegogo website, which Prindiville said will be used to complete the film and take it on the road to universities, local events, regional and national film festivals, and other venues that might help spread this message locally and nationally.

“We encourage people to contribute what they can. No donation is too large or too small,” said Prindiville. “Our goal moving forward is to capitalize on the momentum we have gained since the start of the campaign. We will continue to grow our network, and our commitment to the community is ongoing.”

Community members will have another chance to view the film’s progress during the Cape Fear Environmental Film Forum on Feb. 22 at the University of North Carolina Wilmington’s King Hall.
